Bearish trend prevailed across all the major oilseeds and spices complex in today's trading in the wake of fragile export demand of oilmeals coupled with higher bumper supplies of major commodities. The oilseeds counters plunged by almost one percent, while spices and chana complex declined by more than 1% today. The NCDEX Mustard seed and soyabean were hammered by bearish domestic cues. As per the latest update by Solvent Extractors' Association of India , the import of vegetable oils during December 2018 is reported at 1,211,164 tons compared to 1,088,783 tons in December 2017, consisting 1,145,794 tons of edible oils and 65,370 tons of non-edible oils i.e. up by 11%. On the other side, weakness also prevailed in jeera futures as prices were dampened by poor export demand due to higher prices. The NCDEX March Jeera futures shrugged off by more than 0.76% today.
