Key equity barometers further extended losses and hit fresh intraday low in mid-afternoon trade. Dismal global cues spoiled investors sentiment. The Nifty fell below 11,300 level. At 14:21 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 681.33 points or 1.75% at 38,164.49. The Nifty 50 index lost 245.90 points or 2.14% at 11,259.05. The broader market saw heavy selling. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 3.08% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index slipped 3.18%. Sellers outpaced buyers. On the BSE, 600 shares rose and 2053 shares fell. A total of 175 shares were unchanged. Buzzing Index: The Nifty FMCG index fell 2.75% to 29,623.15, extending losses for third consecutive session. The index has declined 3.93% in three sessions. Nestle India (down 4.68%), Tata Consumer Products (down 4.27%), United Spirits (down 4.26%), United Breweries (down 4.04%), Britannia Industries (down 3.61%), Dabur India (down 3.14%), Godrej Consumer (down 2.99%), Varun Beverages (down 2.69%), Hindustan Unilever (down 2.64%), Marico (down 2.48%), Jubilant Foodworks (down 1.69%), ITC (down 1.48%), Emami (down 1.19%), Procter & Gamble Hygiene (down 0.93%) and Colgate-Palmolive India (down 0.33%) declined. The Nifty Bank index was down 1.55% to 21,689.75, extending declined for third day in a row. The index has lost 3.91% in three sessions while the benchmark Nifty 50 index shed 1.91% during the same period. IndusInd Bank (down 5.46%), Bandhan Bank (down 5.29%), RBL Bank (down 4.82%), Punjab National Bank (down 4.45%), IDFC First Bank (down 4.02%), Axis Bank (down 3.83%), Bank Of Baroda (down 3.44%), ICICI Bank (down 3.40%), SBI (down 3.32%) and Federal Bank (down 2.60%) declined. Concurrently, Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.69%) and HDFC Bank (up 0.66%) bucked the trend. Numbers to Track: In the foreign exchange market, the partially convertible rupee edged higher to 73.385 compared with its previous closing 73.4550. The yield on 10-year benchmark federal paper fell to 6.009% compared with previous closing of 6.014% in the previous trading session. MCX Gold futures for 5 October 2020 settlement fell 0.79% to Rs 51,306. In the commodities market, Brent crude for November 2020 settlement shed 87 cents to $42.28 a barrel.
